To celebrate the release of his debut album on ILINX, the label headed by Sasha Carassi, The Illustrated Man has recorded an exclusive new mix for our Prima Lux series.
Born in Yerevan and now based in Dubai, The Illustrated Man builds his world at the meeting point of cinema, visual art and literary science fiction, taking his name from Ray Bradbury’s iconic novel. His sound moves fluidly between cinematic electronics, indie dance, melodic techno and house, earning support from the likes of Adriatique, Bedouin, Richie Hawtin and Joris Voorn along the way.
His new album, ‘The Skin Of Time’, is an eleven track journey that treats time not as a linear dimension but as a force that shapes identity, memory and perception. Rather than following a traditional narrative, the record drifts through emotional and existential states, from an initial sense of absence to the slow emergence of rhythm and tension, before dissolving into fragmentation. Each track unfolds like a chapter, leaving the listener suspended in a space of reflection.
The album is rich with collaborations, bringing in the distinctive voices of Sasha Carassi, Aquarius Heaven, Mønölitio, Robert Owens, Nat James and Jonatan Bäckelie. Highlights include the hypnotic groove of ‘Dance of Shadows’, the raw and expansive house spirit of ‘In The Heart of Fire’ and the delicate, open ended closer ‘When Everything Is Said’. Balancing cinematic depth with club functionality, it works just as well for immersive late night listening as it does on the floor.
This Prima Lux mix captures that same balance, a seamless flow of atmosphere, melody and momentum that pulls you deep into The Illustrated Man’s universe.
