Amonita has spent the past few years building one of the most recognisable voices in melodic, organic leaning electronic music, and with ‘Wake Up’ she turns that voice inward. The Barcelona based DJ and producer has always written from a personal place, but this one arrives as something closer to a quiet confession set to a dancefloor tempo, a track about the moment you realise you have been living inside your own head for far too long.

Built around a tight, insistent rhythm section that rolls at a patient 122 BPM, ‘Wake Up’ moves with the kind of restraint that has become Amonita’s signature. Airy arpeggios drift across the top of the groove and open the track out into a wide, cosmic space, while a spoken philosophical passage cuts through the middle and gives the whole thing its emotional weight. The idea behind it is that borderline state we all know, when we sink into our problems as though into a heavy dream and forget that the reality around us is far wider than the one we have been staring at. ‘Wake Up’ arrives as a single on Rubicunda, the imprint Amonita founded in 2021 and has since turned into a dependable home for warm, emotive and deeply melodic club music. The label has hosted work from Makebo, Izhevski and Amonita herself, and its catalogue has quietly become a reference point for anyone chasing that balance between hypnotic groove and genuine feeling. RBCND032 is a fitting addition, and another reminder that Amonita is at her best when she has nothing to hide behind.
