Julian Fox has quietly built one of the more dependable names in contemporary tech house, a producer whose records sit comfortably between underground grit and the kind of hook that lifts a room. Splitting his time between Ibiza and the wider club circuit, he has spent recent seasons behind the decks at rooms like Bora Bora, Nikki Beach, Privilege and Club Chinois, and that hands on dancefloor education runs right through his productions. Cuts such as ‘Make You House’ and ‘Track Record’ have shown a producer who knows exactly how much to give and how much to hold back.

‘You Gotta’ is his latest, and it is a sleek, energetic production that puts the focus firmly on groove, atmosphere and momentum. The stripped back vocal is centred around the phrase that gives the track its title, yet it never tips into a traditional vocal narrative. Instead the voice is treated as another element within the production, a repeating hook that darts between the drums rather than sitting on top of them.

The result is playful and instantly engaging, a track that builds its character through rhythm, texture and movement. Keeping the vocal minimal gives the production plenty of space to breathe, letting the instrumental take centre stage while still handing the listener a memorable focal point. It is all about capturing a feeling rather than telling a story: confident, effortless and made to keep the energy moving from the first beat to the last.

The single lands on For Fox Sake, the imprint Julian Fox launched and curates himself. Since its first outing the label has carved out a clear identity built on refined production and unfussy dancefloor logic, putting out music that works as well at peak time as it does on a Sunday terrace. ‘You Gotta’ arrives as catalogue number FFS005 and is another sure fire hit for the For Fox Sake discography.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘You Gotta’ exclusively on When We Dip Radio. Enjoy!
