SUNCTURE continues its abundant run of groove-led releases with ‘DÉSIR,’ the latest single from label resident Kapir. The new record explores a more playful and sensual side of the producer’s sound, combining organic instrumentation and hypnotic rhythms with unexpected electronic textures and a distinctly French vocal presence.

‘DÉSIR’ doesn’t follow a straight line, instead allowing its various elements to rub against one another: organic percussion sits beneath a loose, funky groove, whispered French vocals bring a sense of intimacy, while dissonant synths and sudden brass flourishes keep the track moving in unexpected directions.

The result is a record with plenty of attitude. Rather than relying on a conventional melodic progression, ‘DÉSIR’ finds its momentum in rhythm, texture and contrast. The groove remains locked in while different sounds enter and disappear around it, giving the track a playful quality that feels closer to a live musical exchange than a rigidly programmed arrangement.

The French spoken-word vocal is central to that character. Delivered with an understated sensuality, it adds a human presence to the production without overwhelming the instrumental. Around it, Kapir layers funky rhythmic elements, off-kilter synth tones and intermittent brass riffs, creating a sound that is simultaneously warm, playful and irresistibly danceable.

It’s a natural progression for an artist who has used his releases on SUNCTURE to explore different sides of his musical identity. Kapir first appeared on the label alongside Sunora on Sunset to Sunrise, before stepping forward with his solo track ‘Fractal Ecstasy’. He subsequently reunited with Sunora for Gami Yami, strengthening a creative relationship that has become an important part of the SUNCTURE story. With ‘DÉSIR,’ however, Kapir takes the opportunity to follow his own instincts. The track feels less concerned with fitting neatly into a particular house subgenre and more interested in creating a distinct atmosphere; one where groove, sensuality and musical unpredictability can coexist.
