Sum Over Histories is turning ten, and Frankey & Sandrino are celebrating in fitting fashion with Sum Over Histories Collapsed, a ten-track compilation that brings the label’s founders together with the artists who helped shape its sound over the past decade. Among them is Vini Pistori, who returns to the imprint once again, this time joining forces with geja on ‘Work It’.
True to its title, ‘Work It’ is all about the groove. Sitting at around 123 BPM, the track opens on a tight, rolling low end before crisp hats and melodic layers gradually pile in, building a hypnotic momentum that feels right at home in the indie dance realm. The midrange keeps swelling as the arrangement unfolds, leading into a breakdown that pulls the kick away and lets the melodies breathe, before everything locks back in for a final stretch made for the dancefloor. It is a confident, driving cut that still carries the emotive touch Sum Over Histories is known for.
Originally from São Paulo and now based in Lisbon, Vini Pistori is a self-taught DJ and producer who has spent nearly two decades refining a sound rooted in the heritage of 90s house and techno. Known for sets that blend groove, musicality and percussion, he has released on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Moodmusic, Monaberry and Not Another, and has become a familiar name on Sum Over Histories, where he dropped his ‘Time Bomb’ EP earlier this year. Here, he teams up with geja for a collaboration that adds a lively, groove-driven edge to the anniversary package.
Founded by German duo Frankey & Sandrino, whose own music has graced Innervisions and earned them a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, Berlin-based Sum Over Histories takes its name from a concept in quantum physics, the idea that a particle explores every possible path at once. For ten years, the label has carved out a distinctive space for introspective, emotive electronic music made for closed-eyed dancers, and this compilation is the moment all those possible timelines collapse into one.
