English born, LA based producer Chris Barratt aka Eagles and Butterflies has had a seminal year on the international House and Techno circuit and in the studio alike. Following his standout album on Get Physical titled ‘Abstract’, the deeply emotive house music artist went on tour, playing huge parties in nearly every corner of the globe. His style of production ranges from Downtempo to Techno to House with huge releases on labels like Innervisions, Bedrock, and Southern Fried. True production wizardry and an ear towards the sounds of tomorrow has earned him support from the likes of Dixon, Richie Hawtin, John Digweed, and Tale of Us, to name a few. It’s safe to say that E&B is becoming a well-established name in House Music.

Just ahead of his performance at CRSSD Fest, happening in San Diego, CA this weekend, we had a chance to chat with Chris about his time abroad, his influences and what’s next for this genre bending producer.

WWD: Just this year you’ve played in places like LA, Germany, Montreal, Spain, Hawaii, and NYC. What are some of your favorite parties in the world to play at?

I always love playing in South America but my favorite show this years was definitely DC10 in Ibiza for Circoloco as its been my favourite club for almost 10 years now and I’ve been waiting for this dream to come true.

WWD: You’re playing this weekend at CRSSD Fest in San Diego. They typically book a very underground house /techno lineup, much different than most U.S. festivals. What’s different about playing a festival where house and techno is the forefront as opposed to being relegated to a side stage?

Its great and and I am happy to see that it’s starting to happen more and more across the states which can only be a good thing!

WWD: How do you find the time to write music with all the travel?

I actually write a lot on my laptop while traveling, especially on planes to get ideas down. A lot of my music is started this way and then later on finished in the studio.

WWD: I can imagine there is a lot to draw from touring the world. What would you say inspires you?

Everything around me, places, people, art, music, food, girls, anything and everything!

WWD: Congratulations on your new imprint, Art Imitating Life, by the way. What kind of artistic direction do you see the label going?

Thanks! It’s basically a platform for me to put out any type of music I feel like really. It will always just be my own productions with a few remixes here and there. I’m also planning to take the concept on the road with me to play a few shows with some of my favorite artists.

WWD: What do you look for in the artists you work with?

A unique flavor.

WWD: Do you have any notable up and coming producers you’d like to give a shout out?

Hardly up and coming now but I absolutely love Red Axes, they will have a great year ahead of them!

WWD: Your body of work for the past couple of years is massive. When can we expect another album from E&B?

Will start a new one towards the end of this year, I already have the concept and lots of ideas, which is really exciting.

WWD: Last one… If you didn’t end up a musician, what would you be?

Selling Fanta Limón on the beach!
