Following his massive ‘Magnetik’ EP on Diynamic earlier this year, Italian polymath Malandra Jr makes his debut on Nicole Moudaber’s Mood Records with two more outstanding pieces of melodic dancefloor noir.

Cathedral-like in their structure and dramatic in their goosebumping aesthetic, both tracks take a left turn from his previous release as we hear a heavier techno element in the Italian artist’s driving narratives. Two tunes that truly capture the imagination and a wry slice of dancefloor mischief, ‘Detuned’ is an outer planetary leap with its psychedelic synth spirals, pulsating bassline and sense of pure fantasy that whips up and up and up in intensity with every twist, turn and build-up.

‘Gestures’ follows suit with similar motifs but a little more introspection and restraint. The bassline struts rather than charges, the lavish synths tell more of a mournful tale that opens out into a fully blown novel comprising steel strings and melting brass before the subtle pianos hit with the bassline like thunder.
