Rising Kiev duo Off Night have come together with House Music icon Robert Owens on new cut ‘Suspended In Air’. The Ukrainian pair joined us this week to discuss the collaboraton, their pandemic experience and much more. It’s all below!

WWD: Hey guys, how are you, what’s good and bad in your life right now?

Hey, we are good as we have started a new project and are working hard on it. There is a pandemic all over the world and almost the entire club industry has stopped, but we are full of hopes that this will all end soon.

WWD: When did you two first meet, what made you want to work together?

We first met about 6 years ago and for a long time were residents of one of the clubs in Kiev. We were playing a lot together and therefore, we decided to combine our efforts and created a project OFF NIGHT.

WWD: Tell us about the new EP on De Sad Secret? I What inspired it?

«Suspended in Air» is the organic balance between melodic house and indie dance. This is the Genre that we like and in which we want to develop as artists and as musicians. And for sure we have a big influence from the sound of 80s, we think you can hear it in our music.

WWD: How did you link up with Robert Owens? Why did you want to work with him? What does he mean to you?

Robert is a true legend and the «voice of house music». It was always a dream to work with him, since we just started listening to house music. So we created a demo with his vocal cutz, sent him to check. He liked it and agreed to make a collab with us.

WWD: Who wrote the lyrics? Is their content important or is it more just the sound?

Robert wrote the lyrics and created the acapella, we did the rest. You need to ask Robert about the meaning of his words. We can’t say what’s more important between music and vocals, it’s a collaboration, so both works are equal.

WWD: Do you think dance music should be socially and politically aware? Or is it about escape?

We think its all about escape to the other reality, listen to music and dance, forget about all the problems for a while and just enjoy. We defo try to stay out of politics. we make music that we hope will bring joy to people. Only love and only smiles! No politics.

WWD: What else have you got coming up/are you working on?

Next release we have amazing remixes for «Suspended in Air» made by German producers Sascha Braemer & Oliver Schories. Release will be out 30 April and believe us its a BOMB! Also we work on new tracks, our management is in contact with some key labels, so soon you will hear more and more of our music!

WWD: What have you missed most during the pandemic year?

We miss travelling, big events and freedom in general! Hope everything will be back to normal soon!
