Q1E2 Recordings announce the release of the debut EP from Papi Gaba. Papi Gaba’s music takes a surgical and alternative turn from conventional House. Lofi-house has peaked, so as we bid it farewell we welcome the sounds of Amsterdam based Mr. Gaba as he pushes the genre in a new direction – a style coined post-lofi. Combining influences from old school and lofi-house, the sound is warm, melodic and melancholic. Mr. Gaba warmly welcomes everyone aboard the post-lofi train, whatever that may mean to them.

‘Move On’ is Papi Gaba’s 6-track debut EP, released on the Amsterdam-based label Q1E2 Recordings. With its mix between airy synths and fat drums, this EP is perfectly suited for the club and the dustiest of living room sound systems.

The EP kicks off with the title track ‘Move On’, being the result of Papi Gaba’s first experiments with tape recorders and cassette tapes. The dreamy intro warms the listener up for the crunchy but driving beat that takes the lead throughout.

The second track on the EP is named ‘It Don’t Matter’, containing many of the staple sounds that defined the early stages of House, like the M1-bass and breakbeats, the track is an innovative ode to the classics.

Next up is the most powerful track of the EP, ‘Fragile’. The chords switch between mellow and groovy, maintaining throughout an ever-present feeling of uncertainty channelled through the high energy of the track.

The fourth track is a remix of ‘It Don’t Matter’. Dutch artist Windows added clubby weight to the track without losing the emotional core of the original production. Keeping alive the old school vibe by using some classic sounds, the remix tickles the listener in all the right places.

The last two tracks on the EP, ‘Kristina’ and ‘No Crying in the Car’ will both be newly released. Where ‘No Crying in the Car’ has a very energetic character, the strings in ‘Kristina’ have a much more emotional tone.
