Highly regarded Australian artist Somersault returns to Audiojack’s ever impressive Gruuv imprint with a delectable 3 tracker of incredible music that transcends the genre spectrum in impressive form.
The Melbourne native returns to Audiojack’s imprint for his second release on the label having previously released on the label back in 2020. Since that release the popular Australian has delivered top-quality EPs on premiere labels PIV, and META which picked up support from the likes of Ben Rau, Lord Leopard, KEENE, Fred Everything, and many others.
For his return to Gruuv, he has delivered a stellar 3 original tracks which comes complete with a remix from label owners Audiojack themselves, and this is a sublime package for those with a discerning ear for excellence.
The lead and title track on the EP is ‘Drift’, which features New Zealand’s 7 piece Dub fusion outfit Sub-Tribe on the vocals. This a divine track which utilises break beat right from the outset, he combines heavenly atmospheric pads, smooth guitar licks and an excellent vocal from Sub-Tribe over the top delivering something that is a joy to listen to when you’ve closed your eyes and let yourself ‘Drift’ off in to another world.
Next up is the Audiojack Dub remix of ‘Drift’ where they revert back into the club environment where 4/4 beats are the order of the day. They give this almost a Balearic wash retaining the essence of the original yet turning it around for a hypnotic deep journey like rework for the dance floor which is reminiscent of the classic Blaze track Lovelee Dae.
The third track on the EP is ‘Know More’ with feature excellent musicianship on the keys, which gives the track an uplifting feel right from the go, adding in some swing and skip on the beats, this is a delightful deep house laden with emotion and soul for those who truly understand and appreciate the genre.
Last but certainly not least is ‘Olly’ a slick deep house production where Somersault showcases his incredible talents in the studio working the chords through filters and effects yet retaining the tracks soul. This is a delightful EP of electronic music with excellent musicianship, production and soul in abundance.
