Leftfield Return To Dublin For Opium Rooms Debut

When We Dip
Events
19 July 2014

This Saturday is special for two simple reasons. For one there is a new departure for the former Village under the guise of Opium Rooms, and secondly the legendary Leftfield will be making a return to Dublin for a DJ set to give the club’s opening that extra special sheen.  A joint venture between underground aficionados Subject and Pygmalion it already looks set to be one of the standout shows this summer.

From 1989 to 2002, Leftfield (Neil Barnes and Paul Daley) broke down the barriers of dance music and were one of the acts responsible for the explosion of progressive house. Following an 8 year hiatus, in January 2010, Barnes resurrected the band name and having toured the world for a couple of years (stopping by for a stomping Electric Picnic performance) is now writing new material for a third album. The duo were hugely influential in the evolution of electronic music in the 1990s with Mixmag describing them as “the single most influential production team working in British dance music”. As with many of their contemporaries such as The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield were notable for their use of guest vocalists in their electronic music.

“Looking forward to being back in Dublin this weekend to DJ at the new Opium Rooms. ( Village). I’m on at 1am. 3 new Leftfield tracks in the set.”

A direct quote from the man himself and with news like this its hard to see how Dublin’s dance music faithful can give this Saturday a miss. A potent mix of new material and classics like Open Up, Song Of Life and Space Shanty is something that even has WWD salivating at the mouth. We’ll be there front and centre for what could potentially be the dawning of a new day in Dublin for dance.

Tickets are available via Fatsoma
