Rising out of Argentina’s burgeoning progressive house scene and making his EDGE debut is Ric Niels. Noted for a sound which is equal parts diverse and broad, Ric Niels first emerged in 2020 with a string of superlative releases which established his club-effective production style. Moving forward, Ric took his ability to blend and blur the lines between genres, recording projects for a host of elite imprints in Armadillo, Mango Alley, Plattenbank, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden, amongst others. Considered by most as creative and prolific, Ric quickly earned the praise of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, a trio of elite DJs who are considered to be the most influential progressive house tastemakers the world has to offer.

Never one to rest on his laurels, 2025 has seen Ric continue to choose his projects wisely, notching an impressive return to Mango Alley with a chart topping remix of ‘Detach’ by Tomas Briski, a production which only furthered Ric’s unique ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge. Now, presenting just his second original project of the year, Ric adds EDGE to his resume with  two-track showcase, ‘Meltdown.’

Beginning with ‘Meltdown,’ Ric showcases a groovy percussive approach which sets the tone for the EP. Full of alluring design qualities, the Argentinean phenom expertly blends thunderous kick drums and voluptuous grooves, with pyrotechnic effects, rebounding rhythms and striking synth flares, for a dramatic path into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the second act, it’s an array of fragmented sonics which emerge to reveal a paranoid monochrome, one to put even the most discerning of dancefloors on high alert, before getting washed away in a rush of acid inspired motifs and siren-like bursts for an engaging finale.

The companion piece ‘Plastik Resine’ lands with a decidedly deeper approach, as Ric flexes his keen sense of looping hypnotism across a concise six-minute running time. Perfectly contoured basslines and flickering percussive arrangements provide the anchor for panning chord stabs to lead a groovy storyboard. Continually evolving as modulation percolates across the main break, Ric creates a club energy that is both stirring and confident, carefully withholding energy while tension builds for a tastefully restrained drop to round out the EP on a stylized note.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Meltdown’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
