Shinedoe’s tenth MTM release is a reminder of how effective her precision approach can be. GEMS is four tracks that have been focused under years of dancefloor experience. Hypnotic Techno with crisp drum programming, refined atmospheres and basslines that do the heavy lifting whilst sitting integral to the groove.

‘Stand Up’ is classic Shinedoe with taut percussion, gradual pressure, a unique bass idea that feels more like a an FM synth mantra than a hook. The “Rework” leans deeper, blurring the space the original bass took and opening room while keeping the pulse locked. Next “Gold” nudges into peak-time territory with a unreal rhythm and bass section that has already lit-up Berghain this season.

Closing GEMS we have ‘Alkebulan’ Mother of human mankind. The Garden of Eden. It was the original name for Africa. In Alkebulan, she brings Igbo the ancient Egyptians, her ancestors into the here and now. The track has a depth to it rarely heard, threading ancestral motifs into a rolling framework that feels grounded and quietly euphoric.

Nothing here chases drama. Instead, GEMS favours precision, power and practise. The kind of tracks that glue a night together and bring the dancefloor with them. Irresistible.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Alkebulan’ exclusively on When We Dip Radio. Enjoy!
