Alan Dixon opens a bold new chapter with the launch of his freshly minted imprint Hotline Records, in collaboration with Max Menaged, and they do so in emphatic fashion. Teaming up with matteomie, and Fraser Jones, they unveil ‘The Light’, a richly layered collaboration that captures attention from the very first beat and sets a confident tone for the label’s future.
Blending the warmth and swing of Afro house with the emotional pull of melodic house, ‘The Light’ is built around an exquisitely atmospheric vocal, a driving low-end groove, and swirling synth lines that rise and fall with purpose. The result is a track that feels both expansive and intimate, equally suited to peak-time moments and late-night introspection. It’s a statement release, forward-thinking, soulful, and unmistakably dancefloor-ready.
The launch of Hotline Records marks a natural evolution for Alan Dixon, whose career has quietly but steadily positioned him as one of the UK’s most respected selectors and producers. With releases on Running Back, Permanent Vacation, AEON, and Correspondent, and regular support from BBC Radio 1, Alan has long been tipped by tastemakers such as Mixmag, Defected, and Traxsource as an artist on the brink of wider recognition.
Originally a rock kid before discovering club culture at 16, Dixon first made his name in the North East of England before becoming a Ministry of Sound resident in Singapore. After returning to the UK — and gaining invaluable industry insight while working at Strut Records — he became a fixture of London’s disco scene, playing for Horse Meat Disco, Elrow, Glastonbury, and holding a long-standing residency at Savage Disco. His reputation soon expanded internationally, with standout shows at Pikes Ibiza, Black Flamingo NYC, and headline appearances back in Singapore.
Known initially for his disco edits, Alan Dixon transitioned into original productions in 2014, drawing inspiration from the likes of Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, and Gerd Janson — a circle he would soon join, releasing on Running Back and receiving a remix from Prins Thomas himself. In recent years, his sound has evolved toward bold, synth-driven anthems that balance disco swagger with peak-time intensity, earning support from Annie Mac, Danny Howard, and an Essential New Tune nod from Pete Tong.
With ‘The Light’, Alan Dixon not only introduces a new label but also reaffirms his ability to bring together collaborators and influences into a singular, powerful vision. It’s a confident first step for Hotline Records — and a track that signals plenty more to come.
