The global electronic music community is mourning the loss of Philipp Jung, the visionary producer best known as one half of M.A.N.D.Y. and a co-founder of the influential Berlin imprint Get Physical Music. His passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in electronic music history, one defined by innovation, artistic freedom, and an unwavering commitment to the culture.

Before stepping into the spotlight as an artist, Jung developed his keen ear for music while working in A&R roles during the 1990s. In 2002, he relocated to Berlin, where he joined forces with Patrick Bodmer, DJ T., and Booka Shade to launch Get Physical Music.

What followed was one of the most significant label success stories in modern dance music. Get Physical quickly established itself as a global powerhouse, championing a song-driven approach to house and techno that resonated equally on underground dancefloors and in home listening environments. In 2005, the label was named “Label of the Year” by DJ Magazine, further cementing its influence on the international scene.

As one half of M.A.N.D.Y., alongside Patrick Bodmer, Jung helped shape the sound of the mid-2000s with timeless records such as Tonite and the era-defining collaboration with Booka Shade, Body Language. These productions became instant classics, bridging genres and generations while leaving an indelible mark on club culture worldwide.

Beyond Get Physical, Jung also played a central role in the development of Kindisch, the label’s deeper and more atmospheric sister imprint. In recent years, he continued to explore new creative territory through Metaphysical, an album-focused platform that allowed him to delve into melodic indie dance, ambient compositions, and more experimental forms.

According to a recent interview with Electronic Groove, Jung had relocated to Costa Rica and was preparing to become a father, entering what appeared to be a deeply meaningful new phase of his life.

At When We Dip Magazine, this loss feels especially personal. Just last month, we had the honor of hosting what now stands as Philipp Jung’s final published DJ mix. It is a poignant reminder of his enduring passion for music and his desire to continue sharing his artistry with the world until the very end.

Philipp Jung’s contribution to electronic music extends far beyond the records he released. As a producer, label founder, curator, and tastemaker, he helped define an era and inspired countless artists around the world. His legacy will continue to resonate through the music, the labels he built, and the generations of listeners and creators he influenced.

We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, collaborators, and the entire Get Physical Music community. Rest in peace, Philipp Jung.
