Some records announce themselves long before they officially arrive. ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ has been doing exactly that, circulating through Yulia Niko’s DJ sets and drawing a serious reaction from dancefloors well ahead of its release date. Today it finally gets its moment, and When We Dip is delighted to hand over the exclusive first play.
Sorlong build the track around a patient kind of tension. Warm, emotive melodies drift across a driving groove while a hypnotic undercurrent keeps everything pulling forward, never tipping into excess. There is real depth in the atmospheres here, yet the low end carries enough weight to make it a genuine peak time weapon. That balance is what lets ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ work as comfortably on late night headphones as it does at 3am in a dark room. It anchors an EP that also features ‘Turn Around Baby’ and ‘Hinta’, two cuts that widen the picture and show how much range the duo have developed.
Sorlong are Jacopo Sormani and Mario Longo, an Italian pair who met in Milan in 2020 after arriving from opposite ends of the country. Their melodic house and techno has since found homes on Us & Them Records, Awen Tales and Black Rose Recordings, and the sound has grown steadily more confident with every outing. AXEPT feels like a natural next step for them. Founded in 2024 by Berlin based artist Yulia Niko in partnership with EMPIRE, the label was built to honour the lineage of dance music culture while making space for the community that surrounds it, with a roster that already includes Fur Coat, Bákayan and Groove Shack. Adding Sorlong to that list makes a lot of sense.
You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ exclusively on When We Dip. Enjoy!
