Tommahawk is a German-born DJ and producer based in Hamburg who has spent the last few years turning a reputation for uncompromising, high-energy sets into a catalogue that matches. Her name sits alongside rooms and institutions like Terminal M, Electric Ballroom and Rave The Planet, and she has carried her sound through Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Scandinavia, South Africa, Colombia, India and well beyond. Releases such as ‘Unfolding’, which drew a remix from Thomas Schumacher, marked her out as a producer with a real feel for the long build.

‘Solace’ is built around a wordless vocal, a floating, almost elvish melody rooted in Nordic folk tradition. Around it Tommahawk sets a track in motion that never stops moving: powerful, relentless, and carefully built. Nothing here is wasted, and every layer seems to exist to push the last one further forward.

It behaves like the sea. Calm on the surface and storming underneath, unforgiving in its momentum, and somehow still a place to rest. The track pulls in two directions at once, physical on the floor yet weightless and dreamlike above it. Strength and stillness arrive in the same breath, music that carries a room forward while giving it space to breathe.

The track lands on Codex Recordings, the Barcelona imprint founded in 2015 by Spartaque. A decade in, Codex has become one of the most dependable homes for peak-time and driving techno, with a roster that has taken in Nakadia, Fatima Hajji, Spektre, Sisko Electrofanatik and Tom Wax among many others. ‘Solace’ is a natural fit for the catalogue: club-focused, forward-driving, and built with the kind of detail that rewards a proper soundsystem.

You can now listen to the full premiere of ‘Solace’ exclusively on When We Dip Radio. Enjoy!
