Celebrating a label debutant, a talented South American joins the Proton Music roster and its 500+ releases, as they welcome Paul Deep and his 3-track, ‘Orchid’ EP.

From the O’Brien Province, west of Buenos Aires, Paul Deep is an established name within the underground dance music fraternity. Purveyor of a distinctive blend of progressive and organic house, the Argentinean star has been involved in the music industry since the age of 13. Charting an impressive path to notoriety with a 2017 debut on Juan Pablo Torrez’s Clubsonica Records and a subsequent double century of production credits to his name, Paul has found his music signed to a host of blue chip labels. GMJ and Matter’s Meanwhile, Lee Burridge’s Tale and Tone and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music have all played host to original EPs from the Paul Deep production studio, while remixes for Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden have showcased another side of his production arsenal.

Now making his Proton Music debut, the conceptual ‘Orchid’ EP opens with the stunning title track. Through a trademark rolling groove and heavy beat, smooth melodic patterns filter into sonic range before weaving a magical pattern at the breakdown. Intwining sonic textures and delicate harmonies, these then evolve into a subtly cadenced motif in the second half that gradually opens up into a delicately shimmering crescendo.

‘Passionflower’ makes its presence felt with a club-friendly rhythmic backdrop that paves the way for a huge sub-bass to add to the groove. Trademark muted chords syncopate effortlessly with the percussion as haunting pads and atmospheric effects drift across the breakdown. Building throughout, the tracks waxes and wanes in dynamic fashion to create an emotive work.

The final piece of the musical triptych sees, ‘Sunflower’ offering a chunky rhythm and ticking hi-hat accompaniment. With its delicate organic house vibe, a searing synth line melds with counterpoint motif and gently pulsating pads that come to the fore at the beatless breakdown. Full of filmic quality through its woven sonic textures and immaculately production technique, the result is a production of rare quality and craftsmanship.
