Some records refuse to let go of you. For Simon Vuarambon, that record has been Kittin’s ‘Life Is My Teacher’, a track he first heard years ago inside a John Digweed set and never managed to shake off. The idea of remixing it sat quietly in the back of his mind for the better part of a decade, waiting for the right moment and the right reason. Both finally arrived, and the result now lands on SCI+TEC, the label run by Dubfire.
Originally released in 2013 as the lead single from Kittin’s album Calling From The Stars, ‘Life Is My Teacher’ has always sat slightly apart from the rest of her catalogue. Where much of her early work leaned on cool detachment and deadpan delivery, this one is warmer and more searching, a spoken meditation carried by melody rather than irony. It is exactly that quality Vuarambon holds onto here. Rather than gutting the original for parts, he builds a new room around it, letting the vocal breathe while the low end gets deeper, rounder and far more suited to a long night on a big system.
The remix was written with a very specific occasion in mind. Vuarambon was preparing his first All Night Long set at Stereo Montreal in September 2025 and wanted something made for that room and those hours, a moment that would belong to him and to nobody else. You can hear that intent in the pacing. The track takes its time, layering hypnotic percussion and slowly rising synth work before letting the vocal land with real weight. It is progressive in the truest sense of the word, patient and cumulative, built for a floor that has already committed to the journey.
“My goal wasn’t to reinvent the track, but to respect its essence while giving it a fresh interpretation for today’s dancefloor,” Vuarambon explains. “This remix is a tribute to a record that has inspired me for more than a decade.”
Placing it on SCI+TEC gives the whole thing an extra layer of meaning. The Swiss producer has been building steady momentum over recent years, and Dubfire had already welcomed him to the imprint in 2025 with the original single ‘Mars’ / ‘DEC’. Getting the nod to release a Kittin rework on the same label, with her blessing, is no small thing. “It’s a real honor that Dubfire wanted to release it on his legendary label,” he says. “Having the support and approval of Kittin herself makes this release even more meaningful to me.”
There is history between these names too. Kittin’s 2014 collaboration with Dubfire, ‘Exit’, became one of SCI+TEC’s biggest sellers and went on to rank among Beatport’s all time top selling techno tracks. Vuarambon’s remix quietly extends that thread, connecting a newer generation of the label’s roster back to an artist and a record that helped shape its identity. Founded by Dubfire, SCI+TEC has spent well over a decade championing forward thinking electronic music without chasing trends, and this release fits that brief perfectly. It is respectful without being precious, modern without erasing what made the original special, and it works just as well at home as it does at four in the morning.
