Burnski & Vakula Remix A Maya Jane Coles Classic

This is the newest release from Alex Arnout’s imprint since August and this time they see the return of Maya Jane Coles, whose career was fostered in its early stages by the label. It features some nice remixes from Burnski & Vakula.

The opener for the EP is the Burnski remix which is a pretty kicking and bouncy take on the original. The groove swings to and fro, followed by tastefully placed stabs, vocal shots and string parts that have a very familiar, Apollonia-esque, feel to them. The flow is really nice and it’s backed up very simply with a couple of warm sounding bass notes from time to time.

The Vakula remix is admirable and interesting but the track on the whole is certainly a slightly odd one. His dub, however, is a serious cracker. It has this really strange, modular sounding lead that opens it and remains as a mainstay throughout. There’s lots of progression and a sense that it’s all building toward something big and then this thumping bass line comes barging in that forces you to nod your head.

Out now on Dogmatik from all major distributors.
