Some connections in dance music are made in a single night, others are built over a lifetime. For Simon Vuarambon, the bond with John Digweed and Bedrock Records goes all the way back to his teenage years in Argentina, when Digweed picked up his early track ‘Inverted Pole’ and started playing it out. Years later, the Buenos Aires based producer is back on the iconic label with ‘Metro / Grey Area’, a two-track release that puts his name next to acid house legend Josh Wink and gives his own original material the space it deserves.
On the A-side, ‘Metro (Simon Vuarambon Rework)’ sees Vuarambon step into the world of Josh Wink, an artist whose approach to acid house and techno has influenced generations of producers and DJs. Rather than simply polishing the source, Vuarambon pulls it into his own progressive universe, shaping a patient, hypnotic groove that keeps building tension as the layers stack up. It is a record made for long blends and late hours, and a meaningful moment for a producer adding his voice to such a respected lineage.
On the B-side, ‘Grey Area’ shows Vuarambon in full solo mode. Described by Bedrock as a much sought after cut, the track has spent the summer turning heads on dancefloors, and its official release will be welcome news for everyone who heard it in a club and has been hunting for it ever since. Pairing it with the Josh Wink rework gives the release a perfect balance between heritage and fresh original material.
The long-awaited EP landed last Friday, and in less than two days its two tracks took the #1 and #2 spots on Beatport’s Progressive House chart. But buzz isn’t limited to the genre; at the time of writing, it’s the #5 release in Beatport’s global Top 10 Releases chart, while ‘Grey Area’ sits at #20 and ‘Metro’ at #45 in the Beatport Top 100, the only two progressive house tracks there.
Born in Geneva and raised in La Pampa, Simon Vuarambon developed a background in composition alongside a DJ career that started in his teens. His music has landed on respected imprints such as Guy J’s Early Morning, SCI+TEC and Anjunadeep, with support from Hernán Cattáneo, Guy J and Lee Burridge helping his sound travel far beyond the Argentine scene where he started.
Led by John Digweed, Bedrock Records has been a cornerstone of progressive and underground house for more than two decades, championing both legends and new talent with the same passion. Having first discovered the label as a listener, Vuarambon is now a returning contributor to its catalogue, and ‘Metro / Grey Area’ adds a special new chapter to that story.
‘Metro / Grey Area’ is out now on Bedrock Records, available digitally and on vinyl.
