A Night in Review: Printworks Presents in Association with Relentless

17 November 2017

A brand of British energy drink doesn’t seem particularly special. But when that energy drink teams up with one of London’s most talked about event spaces, you can be sure that something special was about to ensue. Printworks presents in Association with Relentless took place last Saturday, on the 11th of November, and with it it brought a stellar lineup of some of the more well known faces in today’s house scene. Claptone, Shadow Child and Friend Within were all on the agenda, with special guest Hannah Wants also appearing, showcasing some of the best in bass driven house music.

So we popped down for the day, and a stellar day it was, but this time we wanted to try something a bit different for this review. So instead of providing a breakdown of the days events, we’ve decided to give you three of the standout tracks from the days antics, courtesy of some very fine selectors. Brace yourselves, these ones are very good stuff indeed.

Track No. 1 – Shdow Child – Higher

We caught up with Shadow Child the month before his Printworks appearance, for a good old chinwag about his latest EP release, ‘The Ooh‘. The second track, called ‘Higher’, wasn’t actually mentioned that much. And in all honesty, we’re quite glad, because when this did drop it took us right by surprise. With a potent snare drum, and a high pitched piano roll that lovingly moves the whole thing alonhg, it’s an absolute peach of a house track.

Track No. 2 – Alexis Raphael – It’s Kinda Jazzy

There’s no doubt the man with the mask was on top form, as Claptone’s energy behind the decks seeped straight through to the crowd. It felt like a right old party, and as a dark, driving bassline was brought in, the animation on our faces suitably went up. With a repeating vocal sample and a hollow siren in the foreground, this absolute groover really did destroy the dance. One of those tech house numbers that gets your legs going, and some.

Track No. 3 – Hugo Massien – No Return

Now this isn’t the first time the lady from Brum has played this tune in her sets. Far from it, as it was back in June time at Manchester’s Parklife festival that we first encountered this absolute monster, courtesy once again of Hannah Wants. It’s been out for a good few months now, but that’s hardly relevant, as this tune still absolutely destroys the dance. We won’t spoil it with a description, just click play below, and prepare for the beast.

So there you have it, three of our favourite tracks from Printworks last weekend. Different but daring, all of them sounded right at home in the long room one corridor, and boy can’t we wait to get back straight back in there.

The Hydra presents Blueprint lands at Printworks on Novmber 18th, featuring Marcell Detmann, James Ruskin and British Murder Boys. Tickets available here
